Srinagar, Aug 6 (JKNS): Government Lalla Ded Hospital, Srinagar, the premier healthcare institution dedicated to women’s health in Kashmir, plays a vital role in providing quality medical care to women from across the Valley.

Medical experts and members of civil society believe that equipping this important institution with advanced technology and additional facilities has become an urgent necessity.

While speaking to this correspondent, several prominent and socially conscious citizens said that Government Lalla Ded Hospital is the Valley’s leading centre for maternal and women’s healthcare.

They stressed that the hospital should be further strengthened with modern medical equipment, advanced healthcare infrastructure, and enhanced facilities to meet the growing needs of patients.

They also pointed out that expanding the hospital’s budget would significantly improve healthcare services and help address increasing patient loads. Despite limited resources, they appreciated the dedication and hard work of the Medical Superintendent and the entire medical staff, whose sincere efforts have greatly improved the hospital’s functioning.

Every year, the hospital provides treatment to hundreds of thousands of women, conducts thousands of surgeries, performs numerous ultrasound examinations, diagnostic tests, and offers specialised maternal and gynaecological care.

During interactions with several eminent citizens, they described Lalla Ded Hospital as one of the most crucial healthcare institutions in Kashmir, where critically ill pregnant women and emergency obstetric cases are frequently referred from hospitals across the Valley.

They said that saving the lives of women in life-threatening situations through timely emergency medical intervention is not only a remarkable professional achievement but also a true example of humanity and selfless service.

However, they emphasized that if the hospital were provided with additional funding, state-of-the-art medical technology, and modern healthcare infrastructure, doctors and healthcare workers would be able to offer even more effective treatment to critically ill patients.

Despite these challenges, the Medical Superintendent, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals have transformed the hospital through their commitment, dedication, and tireless service, resulting in significant improvements in patient care and treatment standards.

Several women patients also appealed to the government to further expand the hospital and equip it with the latest medical technology so that more lives can be saved during complicated pregnancies and childbirth, while strengthening the overall healthcare system.

They further observed that women play an irreplaceable role in sustaining humanity. The pain and suffering a mother endures during childbirth cannot truly be measured or fully understood.

They added that whenever a woman in labour is brought to the hospital, every healthcare worker, administrator, and senior official should remember that each of them was also brought into this world by a mother who endured immense pain and risked her own life to give birth.

Therefore, they said, every possible facility and compassionate care should be extended to women during childbirth, as no amount of service can ever repay the sacrifices made by mothers.

The speakers concluded by urging the government to fully modernize Government Lalla Ded Hospital with advanced medical technology, adequate infrastructure, and sufficient financial support, ensuring that no mother loses her life while bringing a new life into the world.

They said that every maternal death is not only a personal tragedy but also a loss for humanity as a whole. (JKNS)
