Beerwah, Aug 6 (JKNS): A Mega Padyatra (Awareness Walk) was organized in Beerwah on Wednesday under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, beginning from the Tehsil Office and culminating at Main Adda Arwah.
The awareness campaign was jointly organized by social activist and youth leader Muzamil Mehmood, Beerwah Police, and the Education Department, Beerwah, with the objective of educating the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, safe, and drug-free society.
Students from various government and private educational institutions across Zone Beerwah participated enthusiastically in the rally.
The event also witnessed the presence of officials from the Sub-Divisional Administration, Beerwah Police, Health Department, other government departments, members of the Traders Federation, Transport Association, civil society representatives, and a large number of local residents, reflecting the community’s united stand against the growing drug menace.
Participants carried placards and banners bearing anti-drug slogans such as “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life,” “Reject Drugs, Save Your Future,” and “Healthy Youth, Strong Nation.” The students raised awareness through slogans and urged young people to stay away from substance abuse by focusing on education, sports, and other constructive activities.
Among those present were SHO Beerwah Mudasir , owner of Indian Gas Agency, Beerwah Nazir Ahmad Muzamil Ahmad, Chairman of the Carring People’s Welfare Foundation Budgam, renowned educationist Rouf Ahmad Education Zone Beerwah, Cultural Coordinator Arif Ahmad, and several prominent members of civil society, all of whom expressed strong support for the anti-drug campaign.
Addressing the gathering, social activist Muzamil Mehmood said that drug addiction has emerged as a serious threat to the future of the younger generation and society. He stressed that the fight against drugs cannot be won by law enforcement agencies alone and requires the active participation of parents, teachers, social organizations, and the public. He urged youth to channel their energy into education, sports, and other positive pursuits.
SHO Beerwah Mudasir Nazar emphasized that effective prevention of drug abuse requires close coordination among the police, educational institutions, and society. He appealed to students and the general public to immediately report any suspicious drug-related activities to the police so that prompt action can be taken.
Speaking on the occasion, Nazir Ahmad owner of Indian Gas Agency, Beerwah described drugs as a “silent poison” destroying the future of young people. He said every citizen has a responsibility to safeguard families and communities from this menace by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities to the concerned authorities.
Muzamil Ahmad, Chairman of the Carring People’s Welfare Foundation Budgam, said protecting the younger generation from the devastating effects of drugs is a shared responsibility of the entire society. He emphasized that government initiatives alone are not enough and called upon religious leaders, parents, teachers, youth, and civil society to work together while promoting continuous awareness programmes and positive community engagement.
Renowned educationist Rouf Ahmad highlighted the vital role educational institutions play in shaping young minds. He urged parents to remain actively involved in their children’s lives and closely monitor their activities to protect them from social evils such as drug abuse.
Arif Ahmad, Cultural Coordinator of Zone Beerwah, said cultural, literary, and sports activities provide young people with positive direction and help keep them away from harmful influences. He encouraged students to actively participate in such programmes to develop their talents and contribute positively to society.
At the conclusion of the programme, all participants reaffirmed their commitment to the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, pledging to work collectively for a drug-free society and a brighter future for the younger generation. They also resolved to continue anti-drug awareness campaigns with the same dedication and commitment in the future. (JKNS)
