Shopian, Aug 8 (JKNS): An important awareness programme on “Tribal Rights” under NALSA’s Samvad Scheme 2025 was organised today by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, at Imtiyaz Memorial Government Degree College Shopian.
The programme focused on creating greater awareness among the tribal community about their legal rights constitutional safeguards access to justice and various legal services available to them.
The initiative aimed at ensuring that members of tribal communities are aware of their rights and can access legal assistance without facing financial or procedural barriers.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Shopian, SSP Shopian, Principal District & Sessions Judge, MLA Shopian, DFO Shopian and other senior officers and officials from different departments, besides legal services authorities, members of the legal fraternity, students and members of the local community.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Chief Justice (Acting), High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, was also associated with the programme, highlighting the importance of strengthening legal awareness and ensuring equal access to justice for all sections of society.
Speakers during the programme emphasised the need for legal literacy, awareness of tribal rights, protection of constitutional and statutory safeguards, and effective implementation of welfare and development schemes meant for tribal communities.
The event also provided an important platform for interaction between the tribal community legal experts and government authorities enabling participants to understand the mechanisms available for seeking legal assistance and resolving grievances.
The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on inclusive justice empowerment of tribal communities and ensuring that no person is deprived of justice due to lack of awareness or financial constraints. (JKNS)
