Srinagar, Aug 15 (JKNS): Cluster University of Srinagar (CUS) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at its main campus, with Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Mobin, hoisting the National Flag.
The ceremony commenced with the rendition of the National Song followed by the hoisting of the Tricolour and the singing of the National Anthem.
A ceremonial Guard of Honour was subsequently presented by the NCC contingent.
The ceremony was attended by Principals of constituent and affiliated colleges, senior university functionaries, teaching and non-teaching staff.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor paid tribute to the freedom fighters and emphasised that the National Flag embodies the unity, sovereignty, dignity and aspirations of the nation.
Prof. Mobin highlighted the crucial role of universities in nation-building and urged students and staff to pursue academic excellence while promoting fraternity, harmony, tolerance and social responsibility.
He stressed that education must go beyond the classroom and empower young people to become responsible citizens.
The Vice Chancellor also called upon the University fraternity to remain committed to constitutional values, inclusiveness, equality and peaceful coexistence.
He observed that such occasions provide an opportunity to strengthen national consciousness and inspire collective efforts towards building a progressive India.
