Kishtwar, Aug 21 (JKNS): In a major development in the case involving the death of a 14-year-old school-going minor girl from Kishtwar who was reportedly pregnant, Teacher Grade-II Khalid Hussain Sheikh has been placed under suspension by the Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar, pending an inquiry into the matter.
As already reported by news agency JKNS, The girl, whose identity has been withheld, was a resident of Chatroo, Kishtwar, and was reportedly pregnant following an alleged relationship involving the teacher.
She was referred from Kishtwar to Doda for medical treatment related to termination of pregnancy but reportedly died while being shifted to Doda.
Following the incident, police registered FIR No. 34/2026 at Police Station Chatroo under Sections 61(2), 65(1), 90, 91 and 92 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, besides Sections 4, 6, 8, 10 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Police subsequently arrested Khalid Hussain Sheikh, who is identified as a Teacher Grade-II at Middle School Bumalpora, Zone Inderwal.
The accused is presently in police custody, according to the suspension order issued by the Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar.
The Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar, through an order issued on August 21, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, placed Sheikh under suspension in terms of Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, pending an inquiry into the matter.
The suspension order specifically refers to the FIR registered at Police Station Chatroo and notes that the accused teacher is under police custody.
The case had earlier come to light after the minor was reportedly referred for pregnancy termination-related treatment. She died during the journey to Doda, prompting police action and investigation into the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy and death.
Further investigation into the case is underway, while the circumstances surrounding the minor’s pregnancy and death are being investigated by the concerned authorities. (JKNS)
