Srinagar, Aug 28 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has launched a four-day sports activity calendar and a three-month sporting programme to mark National Sports Day, featuring a Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Hockey event, football exhibition match, junior girls’ trials and the unveiling of the Kashmir Super League (KSL) 2.0 jersey and trophy.

As per news agency JKNS, J&K Sports Council launched a 4-day sports activity calendar as part of National Sports Day celebrations, 3 Months Calander, Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Hockey Event, an exhibition football match, junior girls’ trials and the unveiling of the Kashmir Super League’s second-season jersey and trophy.
The proceedings were led by Sports Minister Satish Sharma, joined by Commissioner Secretary for Youth Services and Sports, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, and Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull. Together, they unveiled a 4-day activity calendar and 3 Months Activity Calander that will see sporting events roll out across every UT centre, extending National Sports Day’s energy well beyond the opening week and in step with celebrations taking place across the country.

The action centred around the Synthetic Turf Football Ground at TRC, Srinagar, which played host to many marquee events. An exhibition football match between J&K Heroes and J&K Stars drew spirited support from the stands. International & National Gymnasts also performed during the event, while earlier today on the same turf, young footballers from across the Union Territory turned out for the UT-level junior girls’ football trials, a platform aimed at identifying the next generation of talent from the grassroots up.

The event also carried a distinct league flavour, with the unveiling of the Kashmir Super League (KSL) 2.0 jersey and trophy setting the tone for the upcoming season. Minister Sharma spent time in conversation with KSL franchise owners, underlining that the league exists first and foremost as a talent pipeline, built to scout and nurture young players and prepare them for bigger stages ahead.

Looking to tomorrow, the Minister announced that the Dhyan Chand Hockey Cup, fittingly named for the day’s honouree, will get underway on August 28 and run over four days, adding another discipline to a week already rich with sporting activity.

Beyond the formalities, the day had the feel of a genuine community gathering. Minister Sharma took the time to speak directly with football fans and hockey players present at the ground, and used the moment to reinforce the Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, JKSC’s anti-drug campaign, urging young athletes and spectators alike to see sport as a path away from substance abuse and toward discipline and purpose.
