Budgam, Aug 29 (JKNS): Mera Yuva Bharat MY Bharat Budgam under the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, organised the Khelo India Samvaad Khel Ki Baat, PM Ke Saath programme at Government Degree College GDC Budgam on 29 August 2026 as part of efforts to promote the culture of sports and encourage greater participation of youth in sporting activities.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 180 students and youth from participating colleges. The event provided young participants with an engaging platform to learn, interact and share their views on sports while understanding the significant role of sports in building discipline, teamwork, confidence, leadership qualities and a healthy lifestyle.
A major highlight of the programme was the Khelo India Dialogue and virtual interaction with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The interaction offered students and young participants an opportunity to connect with the larger vision of developing India as a strong sporting nation and to understand the importance being accorded to youth and sports under various national initiatives.
Dr. Riffat Anjum Fatima, Vice Principal, GDC Budgam, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, she appreciated the initiative undertaken by MY Bharat Budgam and emphasised the importance of sports and physical activities in the overall development of students. She encouraged the youth to actively participate in sports and make fitness and discipline an integral part of their daily lives.
MY Bharat Representative Er. Aquib Ahmad actively coordinated and facilitated the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of providing young people with opportunities to engage in sports, leadership and nation-building activities. He said that initiatives such as Khelo India Samvaad help create awareness among youth about sporting opportunities and motivate them to pursue their interests with confidence and dedication.
Er. Aquib Ahmad also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students, faculty members, NSS volunteers and young sportspersons, and expressed gratitude to the college administration for extending its support in making the programme successful.
NSS Coordinator Ms. Mehvish Altaf also played an important role in facilitating student and NSS volunteer participation. She encouraged the youth to actively engage in sports, fitness and community-oriented activities and highlighted the role of NSS in developing leadership, discipline, teamwork and a sense of social responsibility among students.
The programme featured an inspiring interaction with young sportspersons Ms. Batoola Akhter and Ms. Bisma Bashir, who shared their personal experiences, challenges and achievements in their respective sporting journeys. They spoke about the importance of dedication, hard work, discipline, regular practice, perseverance and maintaining a positive mindset while pursuing a career in sports.
The sportspersons also interacted directly with students and responded to their questions regarding training, competitions, opportunities and challenges faced by young athletes. Their stories and experiences motivated the participants to pursue their sporting interests with greater commitment and determination.
The event also emphasised the broader objectives of the Khelo India initiative, including identifying and nurturing sporting talent, promoting grassroots participation, encouraging fitness among young people and creating a stronger sporting ecosystem across the country.
Students expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to witness the Khelo India Dialogue and interact with sportspersons. The programme created a positive and energetic atmosphere and encouraged participants to view sports not only as a means of physical fitness but also as a pathway towards personal growth, leadership and excellence.
The successful conduct of the programme reflected the collaborative efforts of MY Bharat Budgam GDC Budgam, NSS volunteers, faculty members, students and participating youth.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to encourage young people to Khelo India and embrace sports as an integral part of their lives, contributing towards a healthier, fitter, more disciplined and sports-oriented India.
