ACB Traps, Arrests Two Police Officers in ₹15,000 Bribe Case in Srinagar

Sub-Inspector caught red-handed while allegedly accepting gratification on behalf of case IO; PSI also arrested as co-conspirator

Srinagar, Sept 1 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested two police officers in connection with an alleged ₹15,000 bribery case involving a case registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS said that, ACB received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating officer (IO) of Case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar through his accomplice namely Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector P/S Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.

On receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.

Accordingly, Case FIR No. 12/2026 under Section 7, Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 & Section 61(2)BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted. The team caught the accused public servant namely Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub Inspector Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.15000 on behalf of IO of the case PSI Karanjeet Singh from the complainant.

The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses and he was taken into custody in accordance with law, and his Co-conspirator PSI Karanjeet Singh was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.

Further investigation is in progress. (JKNS)
