Kathua, Sept 8 (JKNS): A Police Sub-Inspector posted in Kathua district has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after a medical examination allegedly confirmed consumption of a narcotic or contraband substance, officials said.

According to officials as per news agency JKNS, the officer, identified as PSI Amjid Khan, was allegedly noticed displaying behaviour that raised suspicion of substance consumption while on the premises of a police station.

Following the incident, he was taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Hiranagar for a medical examination, where a drug-testing kit was reportedly used to ascertain whether he had consumed any prohibited substance.

Officials said the medical test indicated consumption of a narcotic/contraband substance, following which legal action was initiated against the police official.

Subsequently, FIR No. 97/2026 was registered at the concerned police station under Sections 8 and 27 of the NDPS Act, officials said.

The investigation has been entrusted to PSI Rajat Jasrotia, who is examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged consumption and other aspects of the case.

Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses. (JKNS)
