Srinagar Sept 11 (JKNS): The Director General Youth Services & Sports J&K Anuradha Gupta on Friday kick started the Inter-District UT Level Boxing Competitions at the Indoor Sports Complex, Wazir Bagh, here.
She was accompanied by Deputy director Planning YSS, Megha Baogia.
14 districts of the UT of J&K, consisting of 279 boys of all age groups along with 52 technical officials, have reported to participate in the competition.
The first phase of the boys’ competitions for all age groups commenced today and is scheduled to culminate on 13th September 2026.
Before the commencement of the competition DG YSS administered a pledge reaffirming drug de-addiction among the youths and young athletes.
The initiative reflected the department’s continued emphasis on promoting healthy lifestyles, discipline and sportsmanship among young participants.
The competition is being hosted by District Youth Services & Sports Office Srinagar under the “Compaign Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan”.
The DYSSO Srinagar has put forth all the necessary facilities for the participating athletes, technical officials and escort teachers to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The inaugural boxing bout of the competition was played between Ramban and Rajouri, marking the beginning of the UT-level sporting contest.
The participation of athletes from 14 districts is expected to provide a competitive platform for young boxers to demonstrate their skills, determination and sporting talent.
The UT-level competition is also aimed at providing young athletes with valuable exposure to higher-level competition while strengthening the sporting culture across Jammu & Kashmir.
The event brings together players, technical officials and escort teachers from different districts on a common platform and provides an opportunity for promising boxers to showcase their abilities. (JKNS)
