Jammu, Sep 18 (JKNS): A man was allegedly stabbed to death during a birthday celebration in Jammu after an argument reportedly broke out over applying cake on a friend’s face, officials said.
An official told news agency JKNS that, Police Post GMC Jammu informed Police Station Janipur that Pawan Nair alias Sameer was brought to GMC Jammu in an injured condition by his friends John Sotra, Gaurav Singh and Sugandh Bhatti. Doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary enquiry revealed that on September 17, Neeraj alias Anshu was celebrating his birthday roadside near Lower Roop Nagar, where his friends, including Pawan Nair alias Sameer, were present. Neeraj was accompanied by his brother Rishu.
During the cake-cutting, Pawan allegedly applied cake on Neeraj’s face, following which a verbal altercation took place.
Official said that when friends tried to pacify the two, Neeraj allegedly took out a khokhri he was carrying and attacked Pawan on the neck, causing grievous injuries.
Pawan was immediately shifted to GMC Jammu, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Taking cognizance of the incident, police registered an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Janipur and initiated investigation.
Both accused, identified as Neeraj alias Anshu and his brother Rishu, were apprehended and are presently in police custody at Police Station Janipur, official said.
The weapon of offence, a khokhri, is being recovered, while the body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
