Srinagar, September 24, An Awareness-cum-Cultural Programme against drug abuse was held at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, under the theme “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan”, with the objective of creating awareness among the public, particularly youth, about the growing threat of drug abuse and promoting the message of a healthy, responsible and drug-free society.
The programme was organised by Shahr-e-Khaas Literary & Cultural Welfare Society in collaboration with Angel’s Cultural Academy, J&K Excise Department, Excise Range Central Kashmir, and the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Culture, Languages.
The programme witnessed the participation of journalists, students, poets, cultural activists and members of civil society. A cultural programme was also presented, using poetry, art and other cultural activities to convey a strong message against drug abuse and encourage youth to adopt positive, healthy and constructive lifestyles.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Shera, Founder of Angel’s Cultural Academy and Shahr-e-Khaas Literary & Cultural Welfare Society, stressed the need for sustained and collective efforts to address the growing challenge of drug abuse.
Tariq Ahmad Shera said that drug abuse not only affects the physical and mental well-being of individuals but also has serious consequences for families and society. He said that preventing drug abuse requires continuous awareness, counselling, education and active involvement of parents, teachers, youth, social organisations and civil society.
He said cultural platforms can play an important role in reaching out to young people and communicating social messages effectively. Poetry, music, art, literature and other cultural activities, he added, can inspire youth to stay away from drugs and channel their energy towards constructive pursuits.
The speakers highlighted the collective role of journalists, students, poets, cultural organisations, educational institutions and civil society in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. They stressed the importance of early awareness, counselling and meaningful engagement of youth in positive activities.
The speakers also urged young people to adopt healthy habits, focus on education and sports, participate in cultural activities and contribute positively to society.
On the occasion, journalists, students and poets were presented appreciation certificates and mementos in recognition of their participation and contribution towards awareness, social responsibility and cultural activities.
The organisers called for continued public participation and sustained awareness initiatives to strengthen the campaign against drug abuse and support the vision of a Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir.
