Face-off Erupts Over CM Omar Abdullah’s Resolution, NC Says ‘Give Back Special Status’
Srinagar, Sept 25 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed a heated face-off between BJP and National Conference members on Friday after BJP MLAs stormed into the Well of the House following Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution referring to earlier Assembly resolutions, including the 2000 autonomy resolution.
The BJP members, as per news agency JKNS, raised slogans questioning the reference to autonomy, while NC members responded with slogans asserting their position on Kashmir.
During the protests, NC members were heard raising the slogan, “Kashmir hamara hai,” while BJP members responded with, “Sara Kashmir hamara hai.”
The situation led to a noisy confrontation between the treasury and opposition benches, with members raising slogans and protesting in the Well.
Congress MLA Nizamuddin Khan also entered the Well amid the commotion.
The protests came shortly after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution referred to the autonomy resolution passed by the erstwhile Assembly in 2000.
The resolution, as per news agency JKNS, listed for consideration in the House, states that in addition to resolutions passed by the Assembly on June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024, the House calls upon the Government of India for the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and resolves that the resolution be forwarded to the Government of India.
The Assembly has witnessed repeated disruptions during the ongoing session, including protests by BJP members entering the Well on earlier occasions.(JKNS)
