District Magistrate (DM) Shopian, Shishir Gupta, today chaired a high-level meeting of the District Level Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting here at the Mini-Secretariat Shopian to review and strengthen measures against drug abuse across the district.
SSP, Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmed Choudhary, ADC, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, ACR, Shakoor Ahmed Dar, SDM, Zainapora, Bilal Ahmed, Dy. CMO, Dr. Nazir Ahmed and other concerned district officers were present.
During the meeting, DC called for intensified awareness programmes, regular pharmacy inspections and sustained drives against wild and illegal cannabis cultivation. He stressed the importance of coordinated, multi-departmental efforts to prevent substance abuse and bolster enforcement mechanisms throughout Shopian.
DC directed for rigorous and routine checks of medical stores to check illegal sale of psychotropic substances and monitoring of prescription compliance. He further emphasized for sustained drives to identify and eradicate cannabis cultivation across affected pockets of the district.
He also stressed for outreach initiatives and educational campaigns targeting youth and local communities to combat addiction and
enhancing synergy between police, civil administration and health authorities to curb drug supply networks and support rehabilitation.
The District Administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and reaffirmed its commitment to making Shopian a drug-free district through continuous vigilance and strict legal action.
