Srinagar, Oct 10 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Saturday announced district-wise protests across Jammu and Kashmir against the Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing it of ignoring public issues and asserting that the BJP would raise the concerns of poor people on the streets.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Sharma, as per news agency JKNS, said a meeting of BJP district presidents and general secretaries was held on Saturday, during which it was decided that the party, as the main opposition, would launch an agitation against the government across the Union Territory.
“We tried to raise public issues inside the Assembly but the government is only busy in reshuffling and saving its own house. The government is far from the poor. BJP will now fight on roads and in every district,” Sharma said.
He alleged that protests in Delhi were part of a conspiracy to destabilise the country by creating unrest among youth on the lines of Nepal and Bangladesh. He also criticised opposition parties for targeting constitutional authorities, including the Chief Election Commissioner.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, Sharma said he fully supported the exercise, arguing that illegal voters from Bangladesh and Pakistan should not be allowed to vote. He said the deletion of names of shifted, deceased and untraceable voters did not amount to “vote chori”.
Responding to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks on delimitation, Sharma said that if the delimitation exercise was wrong, the National Conference was its biggest beneficiary and Omar should resign on moral grounds.
Sharma also criticised the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of adopting double standards and attempting to create anarchy after losing public support. (JKNS)
