Srinagar, Oct 16 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered an in-depth inquiry into the alleged misconduct by Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, involving Beenish Wani, JKAS, Assistant Director, Employment, Ganderbal, following reports in print and electronic media.

According to Government Order No. 1654-JK(GAD) of 2026, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on October 16, as per news agency JKNS, Mandeep Kaur, IAS (AGMUT: 2004), Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Housing and Urban Development Department, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the matter.

The order directs the Inquiry Officer to submit her report within 15 days from the date of issuance of the order.

Amit Vermani, JKAS, Additional Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, has been appointed as the Presenting Officer in the matter.

The order was issued by M. Raju, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department.

The development comes amid controversy over an incident involving the Labour and Employment Department, which drew public attention following the circulation of reports and video clips concerning an interaction between the senior IAS officer and the woman JKAS officer.

National Conference MP from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, had also criticised the alleged conduct of the senior officer, expressing concern over the reported treatment of the woman officer and the alleged threat to her career.

The Government’s decision to order an in-depth inquiry is aimed at examining the matter, with the Inquiry Officer required to submit her findings within the stipulated 15-day period. (JKNS)
