Srinagar, Oct 18 (JKNS): A Kashmir-bound bus operated by Star World Ventures was allegedly attacked with stones by unidentified persons in Haryana while travelling from Delhi to Srinagar, leaving an elderly Kashmiri passenger injured and triggering concern over the safety of passengers, sources said.

According to the details available with news agency JKNS, the bus, bearing a Jammu and Kashmir registration number, had stopped near Divine Star Dhaba when some unidentified persons allegedly abused the driver before pelting stones at the vehicle.

The attack reportedly damaged the bus’s window glass, while around 40 passengers were on board at the time.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted to the incident in a post on X, describing it as unfortunate and urging the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Haryana Police to identify the culprits and take action to prevent such incidents in the future.

“This unfortunate incident should never have taken place. I hope the Haryana government led by @NayabSainiBJP ji & @police_haryana catch the culprits & take action to ensure these things don’t happen again,” Omar Abdullah wrote.

National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar also condemned the incident, describing it as an alleged hate crime.

In a post on X, Dar said stones and bricks were pelted at a Jammu and Kashmir-registered bus travelling from Delhi to Srinagar near Kurukshetra in Haryana.

He said an elderly Kashmiri man was injured and that families on board were left terrified.

Dar urged Haryana Police to take cognisance of the incident, identify those involved and initiate action against them.

The circumstances surrounding the attack and the identity of those responsible were yet to be officially established. (JKNS)
