Srinagar, Oct 18: BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur strongly condemned the reported attack on a Kashmiri driver in Haryana, saying that targeting people because of their Kashmiri identity is unacceptable and must not be tolerated in a country that stands for unity, equality and brotherhood.
“Such incidents are not acceptable in Modi’s India. Kashmiris deserve the same dignity, respect and hospitality in every part of the country as any other citizen. No one should be harassed, assaulted or humiliated because they come from Kashmir,” Thakur said.
He said Kashmiris are an integral part of India and must be able to travel, work and earn their livelihood anywhere in the country without fear or discrimination.
Thakur demanded strict legal action against those involved in the attack, stressing that the incident must be investigated impartially and the culprits brought to justice.
“Those responsible must be identified and punished under the law. Violence and intimidation cannot be justified under any circumstances. Every Indian has the right to safety, dignity and equal treatment, irrespective of region, language or identity,” he said.
He urged the authorities in Haryana to ensure the safety of Kashmiri residents, traders, workers and drivers, adding that incidents of this nature undermine the spirit of national unity and mutual trust.
“If we speak of one nation and one people, that spirit must be reflected in our behaviour as well. Kashmiris must receive the same warmth and hospitality outside Jammu and Kashmir that people from other parts of the country receive here,” Thakur said. (JKNS)
