Sharifabad, November 4 (JKNS): In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening its commitment towards the welfare of Ex-Servicemen and their families, the Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo) organised an Ex-Servicemen Rally and Educational Tour at Sharifabad Military Garrison on November 4, 2026, to commemorate Battle of Shalateng Day.

The event witnessed the participation of approximately 400 Ex-Servicemen and 200 students and teachers from Army Goodwill Schools across Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts. The programme was graced by Maj Gen Tushar Sharma, Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo).

The initiative aimed to familiarise veterans and their dependents with various Central and UT Government welfare schemes, Indian Army initiatives, pension-related benefits and resettlement opportunities. It also sought to educate students about the historical significance and legacy of the Battle of Shalateng.

As part of the rally, dedicated helpdesks and awareness stalls were established to facilitate interaction with Ex-Servicemen and address their grievances concerning pensions, documentation and other welfare-related matters. Representatives from various agencies, including JAK LI Records, DPDO Srinagar, ZSWO Srinagar and ECHS, provided necessary information and assistance to the veterans.

The programme also featured medical facilities, interactive sessions with veterans and awareness programmes highlighting welfare measures and resettlement opportunities available to Ex-Servicemen and their families.

An educational tour, wreath-laying ceremony, cultural performances by students of Army Goodwill Schools and an address by the Chief Guest were among the key highlights of the event.

The occasion not only paid tribute to the historic legacy and valour associated with the Battle of Shalateng but also reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity and well-being of Ex-Servicemen and their families.(JKNS)
