Accused Allegedly Issued Cheque Bearing Forged Signatures of Deceased Father to Settle Business Liability; Chargesheet Filed Before CJM Pulwama

Srinagar, Nov 4 (JKNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident in an alleged Rs 35 lakh cheque fraud case, accusing him of issuing a cheque bearing signatures of his deceased father to settle a business liability.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS said that, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet in case FIR No. 44/2026 under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before the Hon’ble Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Pulwama, against Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo S/o Ali Mohammad Yatoo R/o Chanpora, Rajpora, Pulwama.

The case was registered on the basis of a written complaint alleging that the complainant was in a partnership business with the accused. During the settlement of business accounts, an amount of Rs. 35 lakh was found due from the accused. To clear this liability, the accused allegedly issued a cheque to the complainant. However, the cheque was dishonoured by the bank as it had been issued in the name of the accused’s father, who had passed away two years earlier, and the accused had allegedly affixed his own signatures on it.

During the course of investigation, the allegations were substantiated and the charges against the accused were found to be established.

Accordingly, the investigation was concluded by SI Farooq Ahmad, and the chargesheet was filed before the competent court for judicial determination.

SSP EOW Kashmir advises the public to maintain proper documentation of business transactions, verify financial instruments, and remain vigilant against fraudulent practices to safeguard their hard-earned money. (JKNS)
