Awantipora, Nov 5 (JKNS): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda, along with Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, on Thursday reviewed the progress of the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Awantipora in south Kashmir.

During the review meeting, as per news agency JKNS, minister took stock of ongoing developmental works, infrastructure readiness and other key aspects related to the establishment of the premier tertiary healthcare institution.

The review focused on assessing the progress achieved so far and identifying areas requiring attention to expedite the implementation of the project.

Sakina Itoo welcomed the Union Health Minister and acknowledged the support of the Union Government in strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of Jammu and Kashmir.

AIIMS Awantipora is envisioned as a major centre for advanced medical treatment, specialised healthcare services, medical education and research, catering to patients from Kashmir and neighbouring regions.

Once operational, the institute is expected to strengthen tertiary healthcare facilities in the region, reduce the need for patients to travel outside Jammu and Kashmir for specialised treatment and improve access to advanced medical services.

The review reflects the continued efforts of the Union and J&K Governments towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure and providing quality and affordable medical facilities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
