20 structures of drug smugglers worth over 4cr bulldozed, PIT NDPS action against 20+ offenders, 1300 chemist checks with 88 violations, 70 actions taken; 400 marlas poppy & 250 marlas cannabis destroyed; 3600 peddlers under surveillance; 160 DLs & 60 RCs suspended in crackdown against drug ecosystem
Srinagar, May 6 (JKNS): The 100-day “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan”, launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has delivered major enforcement results by Jammu and Kashmir police in Kashmir Division within the first 25 days, marking a strong and sustained crackdown on the drug network across the Union Territory.
Sources privy to anti drug operations told news agency JKNS that, the campaign is being closely monitored at the highest level by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi, ensuring continuous supervision, coordinated field action, and sustained pressure on drug trafficking networks operating across the Valley.
Sources said the drive reflects a structured, data-driven, and intelligence-based enforcement approach aimed at dismantling the entire narcotics ecosystem from source to street level.
The coordinated anti-narcotics campaign has resulted in around 400 cases being registered and approximately 400 persons arrested across Kashmir under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and other applicable laws, sources added.
They said that, the sustained crackdown has significantly disrupted the supply chain and reduced the operational space of drug peddlers and traffickers in multiple districts of Kashmir Division.
A major breakthrough under the drive includes the recovery of more than 700 kilograms of charas and heroin, along with around 7,000 tablets, capsules, and syrups, sources said adding, that the total estimated value of the seized narcotics stands at more than ₹2.4 crore, marking a significant blow to the financial backbone of drug networks operating in the region.
In a parallel financial crackdown, properties worth around ₹4 crore, both movable and immovable, have been attached across Kashmir Division in narcotics-related cases, directly targeting the assets and economic strength of drug traffickers.
Sources further added that 18 to 20 structures belonging to drug peddlers were bulldozed, with their estimated value exceeding ₹4 crore, as authorities intensified their crackdown on the financial infrastructure of the drug network in Kashmir Division.
Sources said, this step is aimed at ensuring that proceeds of crime are effectively neutralized.
They further added that, preventive action under PIT NDPS has also been initiated against more than 20 habitual offenders involved in repeated drug-related crimes, strengthening long-term legal deterrence and preventive policing measures.
The enforcement drive has extended to the pharmaceutical and retail supply chain as well, with around 1,300 inspections of druggists and chemists conducted across Kashmir. During these inspections, 88 violations were detected, and action has been taken against around 70 offenders under relevant legal provisions, sources said.
On the cultivation front, authorities have destroyed around 400 marlas of illegal poppy cultivation and nearly 250 marlas of cannabis cultivation, effectively striking at the source of narcotics production in different areas of Kashmir Division, they said.
Surveillance has also been intensified against drug offenders, with action taken against approximately 3,600 peddlers under preventive and enforcement measures, significantly widening the reach of the anti-drug campaign across the Valley, sources said adding that the operations are underway to trap the big kingpins.
Additionally, sources said that with clear directions from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, more than 160 driving licences and over 60 registration certificates (RCs) have been suspended as part of strict administrative action to curb the misuse of vehicles in drug trafficking activities and strengthen deterrence mechanisms.
An official from J&K police told JKNS that, the ongoing “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan” reflects a strong and coordinated enforcement strategy combining arrests, seizures, financial crackdowns, surveillance, and preventive actions to dismantle the drug ecosystem in Kashmir Division.
A senior J&K police officer said that, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and abuse.
He said that under the clear directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the entire machinery is working with enhanced intensity to eliminate the drug menace and safeguard the youth from its harmful impact. (JKNS)
