Kathua, May 8 (JKNS): Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma on Friday said that a love affair dispute was the motive behind the murder of a youth in Kathua district, while the accused was later arrested after being traced through call detail record (CDR) analysis.
Addressing the media, SSP Sharma said that the accused, identified as Parthav Verma (19), allegedly murdered his friend Nakul Singh following a heated altercation reportedly linked to a personal relationship issue.
According to police, during the scuffle, the accused allegedly attacked Nakul Singh repeatedly on the head with a cricket bat, causing him to collapse on the spot.
The SSP further said that when Nakul’s younger brother entered the house during the incident, the accused allegedly assaulted him as well with the same bat, fearing he could identify him. The younger brother also collapsed during the attack but survived.
Police said the accused fled from the scene after allegedly taking away Nakul Singh’s mobile phone.
SSP Sharma said investigators later used call detail records to trace the accused, who was subsequently arrested from within Kathua district.
He added that both the deceased and the accused were known to each other and were reportedly friends. Further investigation into the case is underway. (JKNS)
