Srinagar, May 9 (JKNS): The Department of Botany at Government College for Women M.A. Road Srinagar on Saturday concluded a five-day Skill Development Workshop and Certificate Course on “Floral Design, Flower Arrangement and Terrarium Crafting,” aimed at enhancing vocational and entrepreneurial skills among students.

As per news agency JKNS, The program, which commenced on May 4th, was organized for the Botany (Major) students to enhance their vocational skills and entrepreneurial potential in the field of ornamental botany.

The workshop featured a blend of expert-led technical sessions and rigorous hands-on training. On the inaugural day, Mr. Adil Shah, a prominent floral expert from “Red n Roses,” Srinagar, introduced students to the nuances of commercial flower arrangement and design aesthetics. This was followed by a dedicated practical day where students created their own floral compositions.

The latter half of the workshop focused on indoor gardening trends, featuring Mr. Mohammad Rauf Shah from the specialized boutique “Hadiiqa – Live Green, Terrarium and Indoor Plants” Lal Chowk. He conducted a comprehensive masterclass on Terrarium Crafting, teaching students how to build and maintain self-sustaining miniature ecosystems.

A major highlight of the event was the Botanical Exhibition held on the fourth and fifth day, where a diverse array of student-made floral baskets and terrariums were displayed. The exhibition was visited by college faculty, who lauded the students for their creativity and technical precision.

The program culminated in a Valedictory Session today, where certificates were distributed to the successful participants. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the college Prof (Dr) Yasmeen Farooq emphasized that such initiatives are vital for bridging the gap between academic learning and the flourishing floriculture industry in the region.

The students expressed great enthusiasm, noting that the workshop provided them with the confidence to explore floral design as a viable professional career path. (JKNS)
