Teen Drowns in Nigeen Lake, Body Retrieved

Srinagar, Jun 1 (JKNS): A teenage boy lost his life after drowning in Nigeen Lake near the Nigeen Club area of Srinagar on Monday, officials said.

Officials told news agency JKNS that the boy had allegedly entered the lake for bathing when he drowned under circumstances that are being ascertained.

The deceased has been identified as Nazil Shakeel Bhat, son of Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

Soon after the incident, teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescuers launched a rescue operation and retrieved the boy from the lake.

The boy was immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital Hazratbal, where doctors declared him brought dead, officials said.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings. (JKNS)
