Sopore, Jun 1 (JKNS): The first phase of the Self-Enumeration Census 2027 commenced in Bomai Zaingeer area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, with authorities launching the House Listing operation that will continue till June 30.

Tehsildar Zaingeer and Census Charge Officer Zahid Rashid (KAS) said the census exercise will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase involves house listing, while the second phase will focus on population enumeration.

He said the earlier self-enumeration facility, which was available from May 17 to May 31, has concluded and the field verification process has now begun across the tehsil.

Rashid said extensive public awareness campaigns have been conducted to inform residents about the exercise. He urged people to cooperate with the census staff and advised them not to panic, stating that only designated field personnel carrying official identity cards have been authorized to conduct the enumeration.

“People have been sensitized about the process. Only authorized census staff with valid identification will visit households. Residents should extend full cooperation and can contact the administration in case of any grievance or clarification,” he said.

According to Officials, the population of Zaingeer is estimated at around 65,000 as per 2026 figures. To ensure smooth completion of the exercise, 96 enumerators and 16 supervisors including Irshad Ahmed Dar, Shaheen Ahmed Peer and Hilal Ahmed Bhat have been deployed across the area. They will be assisted by local Numberdars and Chowkidars during field visits.

Officials said the entire house listing process is expected to be completed within 30 days. (JKNS)
