Kupwara, Jun 7 (JKNS): In a major initiative aimed at promoting tourism and accelerating sustainable economic development in North Kashmir, a stakeholder engagement programme was organized at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kupwara, bringing together tourism stakeholders, government officials, entrepreneurs, and community representatives.
The event, jointly organized by the District Administration Kupwara and the Indian Army, marked the launch of the self-developed North Kashmir tourism portal, “Shumali Kashmir,” along with the North Kashmir Tourism Magazine.
Both platforms have been conceptualized, designed, published, and hosted by the Indian Army with the objective of strengthening the region’s digital tourism presence and showcasing its immense tourism potential.
The newly launched portal and magazine feature detailed information about some of North Kashmir’s most scenic and culturally rich destinations, including Kupwara, Karnah, Keran, Machhal, Lolab, Gurez, and other picturesque locations. The initiatives aim to provide tourists, travel operators, and stakeholders with easy access to tourism-related information while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in the region.
The programme witnessed participation from the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, officials from the Departments of Tourism and Planning, leading hoteliers and tour operators from Srinagar and Kupwara, homestay operators, taxi unions, tourism entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders associated with the tourism sector. The gathering served as an important platform for discussions on tourism development, infrastructure enhancement, and improving visitor experiences across North Kashmir.
A special attraction of the event was the exhibition showcasing products and enterprises supported through various Indian Army initiatives. Stalls displayed locally developed products and ventures, including Barkat Bistro, FLOWK, Harmukh Sheen Washing Powder, Keren LED Bulbs, and a range of products from Tulail and Karnah. The exhibition highlighted the growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region and provided local self-help groups and entrepreneurs with opportunities to connect with government agencies and tourism stakeholders.
Speakers at the event emphasized the vast untapped tourism potential of North Kashmir and stressed the need for collaborative efforts among government agencies, local communities, and private stakeholders to establish the region as a premier tourism destination. They noted that tourism can play a transformative role in generating employment, preserving local culture, empowering communities, and driving economic growth.
The initiative is expected to strengthen cooperation among tourism stakeholders, encourage entrepreneurship, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local residents. By integrating tourism promotion with local enterprise development, the programme represents another significant step toward the socio-economic advancement of North Kashmir while safeguarding its unique cultural and natural heritage.
The event concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to work together towards positioning North Kashmir as one of India’s most attractive and sustainable tourism destinations, inviting travelers to explore its majestic mountains, pristine valleys, rich traditions, and warm hospitality.
