Srinagar, June 30 (JKNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, on Tuesday said a comprehensive multi-layered security grid has been activated across Kashmir for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, with all security agencies working in close coordination to ensure a safe, peaceful and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a security preparedness exercise in Srinagar, IGP Birdi, as per news agency JKNS, said extensive mock drills have been conducted involving all stakeholders to clearly define their roles and responsibilities in case of any emergency or contingency.
He said the objective of the mock drills is to ensure that every stakeholder understands their responsibilities and responds in a coordinated manner during any unforeseen situation. “These exercises also help security forces refine their operational capabilities and improve response time,” he said.
The IGP said security agencies have adopted a multi-layered approach by combining ground deployment with advanced surveillance measures, including aerial monitoring and supervision from elevated locations to maintain a comprehensive watch over the Yatra route and surrounding areas.
He said any unusual movement or suspicious activity detected during surveillance would be responded to immediately by the security forces.
Highlighting the challenges posed by difficult terrain and changing weather conditions, Birdi said several stretches along the pilgrimage route remain vulnerable to natural calamities, including landslides, avalanches and glacial movement.
To address these risks, he said tabletop exercises have been conducted in coordination with local stakeholders, disaster management authorities and other departments associated with the Yatra.
The IGP said vulnerable locations have been scientifically identified and mapped in advance to facilitate timely preventive measures and emergency response.
He added that Medical Response Teams (MRTs) and other emergency rescue units have been strategically deployed at sensitive locations to provide immediate assistance in case of any weather-related emergency or other incident.
Reiterating the commitment of the security forces, Birdi said the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security agencies and the civil administration, are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful, secure and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. (JKNS)
