Srinagar, July 3 (JKNS): Kashmiri student and Spokesperson of the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), Umar Masoodi, has been selected for the prestigious 11th Anglophone Edition of the Nuremberg Summer Academy, a globally competitive and fully funded international training programme organised by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy in Nuremberg, Germany.

Masoodi, who studied law at the University of Kashmir, has been actively associated with the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association for the past five years, serving the organisation in various capacities before being appointed as its Spokesperson, association said in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS.

Throughout his association with JKSA, he has distinguished himself through his commitment to student leadership, youth advocacy, legal awareness, and public engagement.

The 11th Anglophone Edition of the Nuremberg Summer Academy for Young Professionals will be held in Nuremberg, Germany, from 3 to 7 August 2026. Hosted in the historic city where the Nuremberg Trials took place, the Academy is regarded as one of the world’s leading professional training programmes in International Criminal Law. It focuses on international criminal justice, accountability, transitional justice, and the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of international crimes.

Designed for outstanding early-career professionals, graduate students, researchers, government officials, lawyers, prosecutors, judges, military officers, NGO practitioners, and academics from across the world, the Academy offers intensive lectures, workshops, case studies, and practical sessions led by internationally renowned experts and practitioners in the field of international justice.

The selection process for the Academy is highly competitive. Applications are received from across the world, with only a limited number of participants ultimately selected through a rigorous two-stage process comprising a written application followed by a competitive interview. Masoodi’s selection places him among an exceptional cohort of young professionals chosen globally to participate in the programme.

The programme is fully funded by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy. The scholarship covers round-trip international airfare, accommodation, full board and lodging, travel health insurance, local transportation, field visits, and a daily allowance, enabling participants to fully engage in the academic and professional programme without any financial burden.

Congratulating Masoodi on this remarkable achievement, the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association described his selection as a moment of immense pride for the entire region.

The Association said, “Masoodi’s achievement is not merely a personal milestone but also a matter of great pride for the student community of Jammu & Kashmir. His dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to public service have earned him this well-deserved recognition. We are confident that he will represent Jammu & Kashmir and India with distinction on the international stage.”

The Association further stated that Kashmiri students continue to excel across diverse fields, earning recognition at globally renowned institutions and demonstrating their talent, resilience, and academic excellence.

The Association also expressed confidence that the knowledge, international exposure, and professional experience Masoodi will gain through the Academy will further strengthen his work in the fields of law, youth leadership, public policy, and international justice, while inspiring many more young people from Jammu & Kashmir to pursue opportunities at leading institutions around the world.
