Srinagar, July 25 (JKNS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit to participate in the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in Drass, Ladakh, officials said.
Officials told news agency JKNS that Rajnath Singh landed at Srinagar International Airport in the morning, where he was received by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
According to officials, the Defence Minister was initially scheduled to travel to Drass by helicopter.
However, due to inclement weather and poor flying conditions, the helicopter sortie could not take place.
Following the change in plans, Rajnath Singh proceeded to Drass by road to attend the commemorative events, officials said.
The two-day Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations commenced in Drass on Saturday and will pay tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.
Senior military officers, veterans, families of martyrs and civil dignitaries are expected to participate in the commemorative events. (JKNS)
