Budgam, September 17: The ongoing protest by National Health Mission (NHM) employees over their long-pending service-related demands entered its eighth consecutive day on Thursday. Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi visited Budgam and joined the protesting employees to express solidarity with them.
While participating in the protest, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi expressed support for the demands raised by NHM employees. The employees are seeking job security, pay parity and resolution of various other service-related issues.
The protesting employees said that their demands should be addressed through a comprehensive and permanent mechanism rather than temporary measures. Their key demands include permanent employment or long-term job security, parity in salaries and benefits, and access to social security-related facilities.
The NHM employees continued their strike for the eighth consecutive day on Thursday, staging protests in support of their demands despite disruption to their routine duties.
Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi’s participation in the protest in Budgam comes amid growing attention to the demands of NHM employees at the political level. His participation also provided the protesting employees an opportunity to highlight their concerns before a wider public audience.
The protesting employees said that their demands are linked to the conditions under which they have been serving for several years, and stressed that a lasting policy decision is required to address the issue of job insecurity.
