Srinagar, Oct 1 (JKNS): Director General of Police (DGP) J&K Prabhat Kumar on Thursday highlighted the achievements of Jammu and Kashmir Police in counter-terrorism operations, saying September had been a month of “many operational achievements” for the force.

Addressing the flag-in ceremony of the “Run for Unity” Marathon organised by J&K Police at Lake View Environmental Park, Police Golf Course, Dal Lake, Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, the DGP said the force was working to counter the plans of terrorists while simultaneously maintaining law and order and preventing and detecting crime.

“J&K Police, in an attempt to neutralise the plans of the impure neighbours, the counter-terrorist operations that we carry out, under your guidance, the month of September has been a month of joy for us, and a month of many operational achievements,” he said.

The DGP said the increasing participation of children and youth in the marathon was a message of their commitment to peace and a better future.

“The youth of Kashmir, the residents of the whole of J&K, are investing in peace, peace over violence, progress over destruction, and most importantly, for light. J&K has risen from darkness to light,” he said.

He said the J&K Police was making efforts to involve youth in its initiatives, including sports tournaments and the Civic Action Programme.

On the anti-drug campaign, the DGP said 3,257 cases had been registered so far, with more than 2,500 disposed of and around 4,000 people arrested. He said 170 convictions had been secured.

Regarding property attachment, he said 288 properties worth more than Rs 138 crore had been attached, while more than Rs 80 lakh in cash had been seized.

The DGP further said J&K Police was “at the top” in the country in preventive detention under PIT-NDPS, with 144 people booked, according to the figures cited by him.

He also highlighted the force’s role in the annual Amanat Ji Yatra, saying 19 Mountain Rescue Teams of J&K Armed Police were deployed during this year’s pilgrimage.

Referring to the rescue operation following the Gulmarg Gandola incident in which tourists were stranded, he praised the J&K Police Mountain Rescue Teams and SBRF personnel for carrying out the rescue operation.

The DGP also mentioned the achievements of the Armed Police personnel in mountaineering and sports, including successful summit attempts at Kang Yatse in Ladakh and Kolahoi in Anantnag, as well as a medal at the Asian Championship in Vietnam.

“Because of you, the contact of the J&K Police with the youth is getting closer day by day,” the DGP said. (JKNS)
