Srinagar, May 03: Following the gush in COVID-19 cases across India that led many countries to ban Indian travelers to enter the country, the Kashmiri students studying in Bangladesh on Monday urged the government to facilitate their travel.
The Kashmiri students told the news agency that the University in Bangladesh has notified the date sheet for their last year examinations but simultaneously have banned the travel to Bangladesh.
One of the students said, “Our exams are scheduled from May-30 and the Bangladeshi government has banned the Indian travelers from entering in view of overwhelming COVID-19 cases.”
“We are more than 100 students that are stuck here and have to mandatorily reach Bangladesh to appear in the exams. We request the government to facilitate travel for us so that our academic year is not spoiled,” he said.
The students said that they also have to go through the mandatory 14-days quarantine in Bangladesh and have less time left to prepare for the exams.
Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) also urged the Subrahmanyam Jaishankar— Minister of External Affairs to facilitate travel for the students stuck here.
“Over 100 Kashmiri medical students pursuing studies in Bangladesh, currently stuck in Kashmiri due to pandemic, have been informed by their respective colleges and Universities in Bangladesh that examinations will commence from 31st May and are thus required to return immediately,” JKSA said in a statement.
