Budgam, Nov 11 (JKNS): Braving sub-zero morning temperatures, voters in Budgam queued up outside polling stations well before 7 a.m., as the Budgam Assembly by-election began on a brisk note with residents determined to cast their ballots despite the biting cold.
As per news agency JKNS, Budgam areas saw, long queues of men and women were witnessed outside several polling booths, where people waited patiently to exercise their democratic right. Polling will continue till 6 p.m. at all designated stations.
To ensure peaceful and smooth polling, paramilitary forces and local police have strengthened security across the constituency. Officials confirmed that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are functioning without any major glitches so far. Given the harsh cold conditions, heating arrangements and basic medical support have been provided at sensitive polling locations.
First-time voters appeared particularly enthusiastic. “We shouldn’t miss our vote it has the power to shape our future,” said a young voter outside a Budgam town polling booth.
The District Election Officer Budgam appealed to the electorate to come out in large numbers, assuring that the administration is committed to maintaining a fair, transparent and peaceful voting process. Turnout figures are expected to rise as temperatures improve later in the day.
The bypoll has gained significant political attention, with Aga Syed Mehmood from National Conference (NC), Aga Syed Muntazir PDP, and Aga Syed Mohsin from BJP and several independents locked in a competitive contest for the seat. (JKNS)
