Police Initiate Legal Action Against Provocative Online Posts in Anantnag

Anantnag, Feb 2 (KNC): In a move aimed at maintaining public order and preventing the spread of misinformation, District Police Anantnag on Monday said that strict legal action has been taken against objectionable and inflammatory content circulating on social media platforms.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, It has come to the notice of District Police Anantnag that certain videos and posts circulating on social media are being widely shared and commented upon, leading to public concern and unnecessary speculation, it reads.

In this regard, it is clarified that appropriate legal action has already been initiated against the objectionable content and derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made by one lady over social media . A case FIR No.14/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at the Police Station Mattan and the matter is under active investigation, it reads.

It is further clarified that legal action been taken against many social media users who have incited and threatened the public tranquility among one such accused has been arrested
The general public is advised not to indulge in speculation, refrain from sharing unverified or provocative content, Circulation of such content may lead to legal consequences, it reads.

District Police Anantnag is closely monitoring the situation and will act stringently, reads the statement. (JKNS
