Srinagar, Mar 16 (JKNS): Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Satish Sharma on Monday said the government has adequate stock of fuel and essential commodities for around 21 days in Jammu and Kashmir, while kerosene supply has been resumed to ensure people do not face any shortages.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, Sharma said the administration is keeping a close watch on the supply chain and will take strict action against those involved in black-marketing.

“We have sufficient stock available for nearly three weeks. If anyone is found indulging in black-marketing, whether it is a petrol pump or a gas agency, strict action will be taken and their licence will be cancelled,” the minister said.

He said that although Jammu and Kashmir had earlier been declared kerosene-free, the government has decided to restore kerosene distribution as an additional support for consumers during the present circumstances.

“We were a kerosene-free region earlier, but we have resumed kerosene supply to provide relief to people,” he said, adding that the government’s priority is to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential commodities.

Sharma also warned that hoarding, adulteration or manipulation of supplies will not be tolerated. “Anyone found involved in such practices will face strict action irrespective of influence,” he said.

Emphasising the need for peace and stability, the minister expressed hope that the prevailing tensions will ease soon. “We believe peace should prevail and hope the situation normalises soon,” he added.

Sharma said the government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah is focused on promoting tourism and development in the region. Calling Kashmir the “Switzerland of India”, he expressed hope that the opening of the Tulip Garden will attract a record number of tourists this year. (JKNS)
