Udhampur, Apr 20 (JKNS): At least fifteen persons were killed and sixteen others injured after a passenger bus skidded off the road in the Ramnagar area of Udhampur district on Monday, officials said.
Officials told news agency JKNS that immediately after the incident, police, rescue teams and locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
They said 15 persons died in the mishap while 16 others sustained injuries and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said he spoke to the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur soon after the accident and is closely monitoring the situation.
He said rescue operations were launched promptly and all possible assistance is being provided. “The injured are being shifted for treatment and arrangements are underway to airlift the critically injured. I am in constant touch with the local administration,” he said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed grief over the loss of lives, extending condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. He said necessary directions have been issued to the district administration, Police, SDRF and Health Department to ensure all possible help to those affected.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating that the government stands with the victims’ families and all required assistance is being extended.
Former CM Mehbooba Mufti also expressed grief and siad, “Deeply saddened by the tragic Udhampur-Ramnagar bus accident in which twelve people lost their lives. Condolences to the bereaved families & pray for the swift recovery of those injured.” (JKNS)
