Sopore, Apr 20 (JKNS): Unidentified miscreants chopped off several apple trees in an orchard at Bohripora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, causing losses to the owner and triggering anger among locals.
Reports reaching news agency JKNS stated, the incident occurred during the night when unknown persons entered the orchard and cut down several apple trees, many of which were ready for harvest. The family discovered the damage early Monday morning.
“We were devastated to see our hard work of years destroyed overnight,” said a family member, adding that the act appeared to be deliberate. “These trees were our only source of livelihood. Whoever did this wanted to ruin us,” he said.
The orchard owner, Qalbi Hussain Mir S/o Abdul Ahad Mir, a resident of Bohripora Sopore, said around 55 high-density apple plants were damaged in the incident.
The family has appealed to the police and district administration to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to justice, stating that the act has severely affected their livelihood.
Meanwhile, police at Police Post Bus Stand Sopore have taken cognizance of the matter and registered an FIR. Officials said an investigation has been initiated to identify those involved. (JKNS)
