Srinagar, Dec 11: The Meteorological Department on Saturday has forecasted that there will be light snowfall and rain in plains of Kashmir during December 14th and 15th, officials said.
In the latest weather advisory, Director MeT, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir, “We are expecting a fresh spell of light snowfall and rain in plains during December 14-15th night.  However, there is no forecast of any major snowfall.”
He said that higher reaches especially of north Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall during the same period. There are also chances of a similar weather forecast along the Sonmarg-Drass axis, Panikhar-Padum. However, weather will remain generally cloudy during December 14-16th in Ladakh, he added.
There will be warmer days and colder nights in both UTs till December 14th, Lotus said.
As Kashmir is witnessing sunny and foggy days, nights continue to record sub-zero temperatures for the fifth day on Friday with the mercury plunging to – 3.6 °C in Srinagar
As per MeT data, the minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of JK, was more than two degrees Celsius than normal for this time of the year. Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded minus 5.5°C against minus 6.0°C on the previous night.
As per traffic police advisory on Sunday, subject to fair weather and better road condition, LMVs(Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
On Mughal road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs from both sides and  HMVs (upto twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs.,  from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. upto to Kargil shall be allo1500 hrs.
On Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one-way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed on Srinagar-Sonamarg Gumri road.
“LMVs followed by HMVS will be released from Sonamarg at 0900 hrs. up to 1400 hrs. No Vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off timing,” reads the advisory from the traffic department.
