Srinagar: A driver was killed while the conductor was left injured after a truck carrying bricks from Kishtwar to Warwan skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, officials said.
An official told the news agency JKNS that the driver of a truck died on the spot, while the conductor sustained injuries and was initially rescued by locals and the police after the vehicle they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Warwan, Anantnag.
He said the deceased driver was identified as Mumtaz Ahmad Tendwa, son of Mohammad Ismail Tendwa, and the injured conductor as Jaffer Ahmad Khatana, son of Irshad Ahmad Khatana, residents of Guddraman Larnoo.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the incident, and more details are awaited.—(JKNS)
