Srinagar, Apr 15 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that a final decision on the proposed bill by the Centre will be taken after detailed discussions within the INDIA bloc, while also highlighting tourism and industrial growth as key priorities for Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to media persons, as per news agency JKNS, the Chief Minister said a meeting of alliance partners in New Delhi will deliberate on the issue and a collective stand will be taken.
“We alone cannot decide on this. The INDIA bloc will jointly decide what our response should be, both in Parliament and outside,” he said.
Referring to past experiences, he raised concerns over delimitation, stating that the earlier exercise appeared to benefit BJP and its allies.
“The way constituencies were redrawn and voters shifted gave an impression that BJP and its allies were being benefited. If such a bill is brought with the same intent, it will have to be examined carefully,” he said.
On tourism, the Chief Minister said the season has begun with the Tulip Garden and the government is now focusing on introducing new attractions for visitors.
“The tourism season has started, and now we are working to bring new things so that tourists have more to explore here,” he said.
He highlighted efforts to showcase Kashmir’s rich handicraft heritage through dedicated platforms, where tourists can witness a wide range of traditional crafts including Pashmina, Kani shawls, chain stitch, wood carving and copper work.
He said such initiatives will not only attract tourists but also help promote local artisans and create better economic opportunities.
The Chief Minister also noted that many traditional markets have declined over time and stressed the need to revive artisan visibility and connect them directly with buyers.
On the industrial front, he said the previous incentive policy has ended and the government is working on a new policy aimed at ensuring real benefits on the ground.
“We are trying to frame a policy that actually works. Earlier, incentives were announced, but there was limited impact in terms of investment and industrial growth,” he said.
He added that feedback is being taken from existing industrial units as well as potential investors to design a balanced and practical policy that can boost industry in the region.
The Chief Minister reiterated that both tourism and industry will be key drivers of growth, and the government is committed to creating opportunities while ensuring that policy decisions are taken in the larger interest of the people. (JKNS)
