Srinagar, Apr 16 (JKNS): A major fire incident broke out in the Alamgari Bazar area of Srinagar gutting three residential structures and causing extensive damage to property, officials said on Thursday morning.
An official from fire and Emergency services told news agency JKNS, the State Fire Control Room Batamaloo received a distress call regarding the blaze, following which fire tenders from F&ES Nowshera, F&ES Safakadal, F&ES Rainawari, F&ES Syed Hameed Pora and F&ES Headquarters were rushed to the spot.
On arrival, fire personnel found all three structures engulfed in flames, prompting immediate and simultaneous firefighting operations. After intense efforts, the blaze was brought under control, while cooling operations were launched to prevent any further spread.
Deputy Director F&ES Command Srinagar, Dr. Aqib Hussain Mir, confirmed that three residential buildings, a three-storeyed, a double-storeyed and a single-storeyed structure were involved in the incident. He said all the structures were of pucca construction with GCI sheet roofing.
He added that the roofing, including attic portions of all structures, along with the first and second floors of the three-storeyed building and the first floor of the double-storeyed structure, suffered severe damage. Furnishings, fixed furniture and household goods were also extensively damaged, while other portions sustained indirect damage due to heat, smoke and water.
Officials further said that one LPG cylinder inside the affected property burst during the incident, adding to the intensity of the fire.
The firefighting operation was supervised by DG F&ES Alok Kumar, while senior officers monitored the situation on the ground.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire was caused by an electric short circuit. However, no loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. Further investigation is underway. (JKNS)
