Budgam, Apr 18 (JKNS): In a major push under the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Amir Khan on Saturday led a mega awareness programme at Government Higher Secondary School Hardapanzoo in Khansahib, urging collective action and community participation to eradicate the growing drug menace from society.
A mega awareness programme was organized today at Government Higher Secondary School Hardapanzoo in Sub-Division Khansahib.
The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Amir Khan. Among others present were SDM Khansahib Jahangir ACP Budgam, District Information Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Tehsildar Khag, concerned BDO, and officers from various departments.
A large number of students from different schools across the sub-division participated enthusiastically, reflecting strong public engagement in the anti-drug campaign.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner inspected paintings prepared by students on the theme of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and appreciated their creativity and awareness. A plantation drive was also carried out within the school premises, symbolizing a commitment to a healthy and sustainable future.
Students presented cultural programmes conveying strong messages against drug abuse and advocating for a drug-free Budgam.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the eradication of the drug menace requires collective and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders. He urged the public, especially the youth, to stand united against substance abuse and actively contribute towards building a drug-free society.
He further stated that the District Administration and Police are working in close coordination to eliminate the menace from its roots. Highlighting the comprehensive approach under the 100-day action plan, he informed that robust rehabilitation mechanisms have also been put in place.
The Drug De-Addiction Centre at the District Headquarters is functioning round the clock, while the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Budgam is actively providing counselling and treatment services.
The Deputy Commissioner also stressed the importance of post-rehabilitation support, stating that efforts are underway to reintegrate affected individuals into society through employment-generating schemes such as Mission YUVA, PMEGP, and HADP.
He further added that similar awareness programmes are being conducted across educational institutions, colleges, ITIs, departments, blocks, panchayats, and municipalities across Budgam to ensure widespread outreach and community participation.
The Deputy Commissioner also made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in drug peddling or poppy cultivation, warning that no violator will be spared.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge by all stakeholders to intensify efforts towards building a drug-free Budgam and Jammu & Kashmir.
