Drug Crackdown Continues in Shopian; Two Peddlers Arrested with Charas-Like Substance

Shopian, Apr 18 (JKNS): Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Shopian Police arrested two drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered substantial quantities of charas-like substance from their possession.

 

During routine naka checking at Zainapora–Bijbehara road near Naghad, a police party from Police Post Wachi observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him. Upon search, a substantial quantity of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mohd Rafiq Bhat a resident of Reshipora Zainapora. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 59/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora.

 

In a separate action, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib, during routine naka checking near Bismillah Automobiles, intercepted an auto load carrier bearing registration number JK03B-8537. During the search of the vehicle, a substantial quantity of charas-like substance was recovered from the possession of the driver, identified as Mohd Ashraf Reshi a resident of Reshipora Zainapora. Consequently, a case FIR No. 21/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib.

 

Further investigation in both cases is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved.

 

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and urges the general public to cooperate in this noble mission.
