Srinagar, Apr 18 (JKNS): The Srinagar administration on Saturday flagged off the first Haj 2026 convoy from Haj House Bemina, marking the formal commencement of this year’s pilgrimage from the Union Territory, officials said.

As per news agency Kashmir News Service (JKNS), Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo said that ensuring a seamless, safe and comfortable journey for Haj pilgrims has been the top priority of the district administration.

Speaking to reporters, Labroo said that arrangements at the Haj House were thoroughly reviewed over the past two to three days in close coordination with district police to ensure that pilgrims do not face any inconvenience during the departure process.

“We are happy that we are able to contribute to their pilgrimage, facilities and arrangements,” he said.

Officials said the first convoy of Haj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir was formally flagged off from Haj House Bemina, Srinagar, in the presence of senior officers, marking the beginning of the Haj 2026 departure schedule.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar and SSP Security were also present during the review of arrangements, officials added.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that a ceremonial flag-off will also be held at the Srinagar International Airport as part of the official departure process.

Meanwhile, SSP Srinagar Dr. Sandeep Chakravarthy, while speaking to media, extended heartfelt prayers for the pilgrims and said the police are fully committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure journey.

“I pray their worship is performed peacefully,” he said, adding that a multi-layered security grid has been put in place for the smooth movement of pilgrims during the 40-50 day pilgrimage period.

He further said that Srinagar Police teams will remain deployed at the Haj House for the next 10 days to ensure smooth facilitation of departing pilgrims, with CCTV and drone surveillance in place.

“We will ensure, with the help of the district administration, that no pilgrim faces any inconvenience,” SSP Srinagar said. (JKNS)
