Srinagar, Apr 30 (JKNS): Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader and MLA Ghulam Ahmad Mir has urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to introduce a scheduled halt for the Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag Railway Station, citing inconvenience faced by people of South Kashmir.
As per news agency JKNS, in a letter addressed to the Railway Minister, Mir highlighted that the absence of a halt at Anantnag is affecting a large population, including students, traders, employees, tourists, and patients who depend on the station for travel.
He stated that Anantnag serves as a major commercial and tourism hub and acts as a gateway to key destinations such as Pahalgam, Verinag, Daksum, and Kokernag, besides catering to adjoining districts including Kulgam, Shopian, and parts of Pulwama.
Mir emphasized that providing a stoppage at Anantnag would ensure balanced regional access to premium rail services, ease pressure on nearby stations, boost tourism, and support local trade and economic activity.
He also underlined the importance of improved rail connectivity for medical travel and business purposes, urging the Railway Ministry to consider the demand in the larger public interest.
The CLP Leader expressed hope that the Ministry would take a positive decision and extend the facility to benefit the people of South Kashmir. (JKNS)
