Budgam, May 5 (JKNS): An awareness programme on drug abuse and its legal implications was successfully organized at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Atina Beerwah under the aegis of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Beerwah.

The programme aimed to educate the public, particularly students, about the harmful effects of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, along with the serious legal consequences associated with their use and distribution. Speakers highlighted key provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act), elaborating on offences such as drug consumption, possession, trafficking, and distribution, as well as the stringent penalties prescribed under the law.

The programme was led by Learned LADC Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Malik, accompanied by panel lawyers Advocate Bilal Ahmad Rather and Advocate Naseer Ahmad Khan.

During their addresses, the speakers underscored the devastating impact of drug abuse, especially on the youth, and urged students to stay away from drugs and make responsible life choices.

Advocate Bilal Ahmad Rather spoke about the severe social and legal consequences of drug addiction, while Advocate Naseer Ahmad Khan emphasized the importance of awareness and timely intervention, stating that an informed society is key to curbing the spread of drug abuse.

The event witnessed active participation and support from TLSC staff and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of Beerwah, ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.

The Headmaster of the school presented a vote of thanks, appreciating the efforts of the organizers and noting that such initiatives are highly beneficial for both students and the local community.

The programme marked a significant step towards enhancing legal awareness and reinforcing the collective commitment to building a drug-free and law-abiding society. (JKNS)
