Budgam, May 6 (JKNS): A grand and dignified function was held today at PM Shri Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Humhama, Budgam, marking the formal inauguration of the school’s annual magazine “Aash 2025.”
The event witnessed the participation of several eminent personalities from the education sector and media fraternity.
The magazine was formally inaugurated by Director of School Education Kashmir, Dr. Naseer Ahmad Wani. Among the distinguished guests present were Director Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar Talha Jehangir Rahmani, CEO Education Srinagar Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, In-charge CEO Budgam Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, noted broadcaster and Editor of AIR Srinagar’s programme “Shehar Been” Mohammad Hussain Zaffar, Media Advisor to DSEK Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, and other respected dignitaries.
On the occasion, the chief guest and other speakers appreciated the dedicated efforts of the school staff and students in bringing out the publication, describing it as a reflection of creativity, talent, and academic excellence.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Naseer Ahmad Wani emphasized that the primary objective of such initiatives is to nurture and bring out the writing abilities of students. He encouraged them to actively participate in co-curricular activities alongside academics to ensure holistic development.
“Our children are highly talented, but unless we provide them with opportunities, their potential often remains hidden. Through such platforms, we can better understand the interests, inclinations, and strengths of each student,” he said.
He further added, “School magazines provide an effective platform for students to express their thoughts, showcase their creativity, and build confidence. These platforms enable students to present their talents today so that they can confidently express themselves on bigger platforms in the future.”
Other speakers also highlighted the importance of school magazines in giving voice to young minds and fostering confidence and intellectual growth.
Noted educationist and social activist Manjeet Singh Gill lauded the efforts of students and staff, stating that the publication reflects the strong traditions of the institution. He expressed pride in recalling that his father, Posh Singh, had the honour of serving as the first Principal of the institution.
The magazine “Aash 2025” has been published in three languages—English, Urdu, and Kashmiri—showcasing the literary flair, creativity, and intellectual curiosity of the students. It features a wide range of articles on science, character-building, local history, and other relevant themes.
The editorial board played a key role in shaping the publication. The Patron of the magazine is Shabir Hussain Rather, Principal of the institution, while Musavir Mehraj served as Chief Editor. The editorial team also includes Rehana Akhtar and Nazakat Andleeb, whose dedication ensured the high quality of the magazine.
The publication was widely appreciated for its rich content and appealing presentation.
During the event, meritorious students were felicitated with certificates of appreciation and awards by the Director of School Education Kashmir.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, staff, and students for making the programme a success.
