Rome, May 20 (JKNS): Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Rome with a selfie post on X, writing, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”
The post quickly gained attention on social media as PM Modi arrived in Italy for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
In a post on X, Giorgia Meloni as per news agency JKNS wrote with a selfie attached to it, “Welcome to Rome, my friend”.
Prime Minister Modi also received a warm welcome from members of the Indian diaspora upon his arrival in Rome.
During the visit, PM Modi is scheduled to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss ways to further enhance India-Italy relations across various sectors.
The discussions are expected to focus particularly on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), strategic cooperation, trade, connectivity and implementation of the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029.
Meanwhile, PM Modi in a post on X said that his visit would focus on boosting India-Italy cooperation and reviewing progress under the strategic partnership framework.
“Landed in Rome, Italy. I will be meeting President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and holding discussions with them. This visit will focus on how to boost India-Italy cooperation, especially focusing on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC),” PM Modi wrote.
He further stated that he would also visit the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to reaffirm India’s commitment towards multilateralism and global food security initiatives.
The visit is being seen as significant in the backdrop of growing India-Europe engagement and expanding strategic partnerships in areas including connectivity, trade, technology and food security. (JKNS)
