Bandipora, May 31 (JKNS): An 18-year-old boy died while his father, was critically injured after the duo drowned in a stream in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday.
Officials told news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as Obaid Shabir, son of Shabir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Nadihal area of Bandipora.
Father-son duo had gone for bathing in Nala Sorindar when they were swept away by sudden strong currents and rising water levels in the stream.
Soon after the incident, locals along with teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a rescue operation and retrieved both from the water.
However, Obaid Shabir succumbed, while his father was shifted to District Hospital Bandipora for treatment and later referred to Srinagar for specialised medical care due to his critical condition.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident, while medico-legal formalities are being carried out. (JKNS)
